I’m an accordionist, pianist and composer/arranger based near Canterbury. As an accordionist and composer i lead Arlet, and am a member of Effra, Flea Circus, Paradox Ensemble and Raqsonic. As a keyboardist i play with experimental future jazz quartet Ruby Rushton.
I am a jazz and contemporary music piano teacher at Simon Langton Boys school in Canterbury and Sutton Valence School. I co-facilitate Singing for Health groups around Kent, sometimes working through the Sidney de Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health.
As a performer i have played at many UK festivals, including Manchester Jazz Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, London Jazz Festival, Secret Garden Party and Shambala. I have played live on Radio 3, been broadcast from the BBC Proms and composed for contemporary music festivals. I sing regularly with a chamber choir, work with theatre and operatic societies, and generally enjoy a varied musical life.
The accordions I play are a Vignoni Ravel IIb and a Victoria XB 310 Intermezzo which is a 96 converter bass. I am particularly interested in the possibilities of free bass within the fields of new music.
